Asthma

Asthma is a common condition that ranges from mild (in patients who rarely need an inhaler) to severe (in patients who experience significant impacts in their quality of life due to frequent and severe flares that require oral steroids). Allergies are frequently associated with asthma, but not everyone with asthma has allergies, and vice versa. Our goal is to improve the quality of our patients’ lives, keeping patients off of oral steroids and out of the emergency room/urgent care. We perform comprehensive asthma evaluations for patients with allergic respiratory issues. Our services include:

  • Pulmonary function tests: these useful, non-invasive measurements assess the function of lungs and help diagnose asthma as well as assess response to therapy and help determine the severity of asthma flares.

  • Exhaled nitric oxide: is a test that can help to evaluate asthma. This test looks for inflammation in the lungs which is often present in uncontrolled asthma.

  • Innovative treatments: for moderate/severe asthma and/or oral steroid-dependent asthma are a special area of interest in our practice; these include Xolair, Nucala, Fasenra, and Dupixent. These medications consist of injections that can help get – and keep – asthma under control. An evaluation by one of our providers can determine if any of these treatments may be right for you.
